President Obama Endorses Law That Threatens Religious Freedom

DECEMBER 4, 2015

This past month the White House announced that President Obama "strongly supports" pending legislation that would amend the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to ban discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity.  The legislation would "include sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity among the prohibited categories of discrimination or segregation in places of public accommodation."

Incorporating this Act into the Civil Rights Act of 1964 would make actions such as allowing men to enter women's restrooms and locker rooms a protected civil right.  Passage of the law would have a devastating effect on traditional morality and religious liberty.  The Equality Act represents one of the most invasive threat to religious liberty ever proposed.  Were it to pass, the impact on religious freedom, free speech, and freedom of conscience would be historic.

To pass the Equality Act would functionally equate those who don't agree with it with racists and label them perpetrators of moral bigotry.  The Act would stigmatize the moral convictions that millions of Americans adhere to with sincerity and deep religious conviction.

The bottom line is that every church and religious organization, including hundreds of Christian colleges, universities, and seminaries, that upholds traditional religious teaching on homosexuality will have the same status  under federal law as racists organizations.  It is that radical and the the President of the United States is for it!
